Special Cameo as "Naval Officer"

"The Balance of Power"

Four simple but powerful words kept popping into my head while working on this show: the balance of power. In Lord of the
Flies, that balance keeps shifting as the boys slowly lose control, and I wanted the lighting to show that change. It challenged
me to figure out how to show that power slipping away on stage. I played with different cues, experimented with gel and
texture, and blended realistic lighting with more surreal, dramatic looks. Even down to the instrumentation was meant to reflect
this, with a mix of intelligent fixtures for connivence but also traditional conventional units for the same powerful quality of light
and warmth. Every choice was about showing who had control in the moment, and who didn’t. Trying to find that balance in the
lighting ended up becoming one of the most important parts of designing this show.

Previsualization in Capture

Once I received the DWG file of the scenic design form our set designer. I got to work right away to model out a 2D drafting
into a 3D model. Previsualization is a very powerful tool that I use not so much for cue composition but to test some ideas that I
had in my head, that I didn't necessarily know how to articulate without a visual representation to other members of the design team.
